Michelle Ferreira was born and raised on the traditional lands of Djilang, Australia and at the age of 14, she moved to Lisbon, then back to the antipodes in her mid-twenties.
Michelle completed her Bachelor of Graphic Design at IADE - University of Design in Lisbon. Later, she decided to pursue her passion for photography. She recently graduated from RMIT in Melbourne with a Master of Photography, including one semester as an exchange student at Parsons at The New School in New York. Throughout her career, these two disciplines intertwine, complement and blend in composition, colour, and layout. As a multidisciplinary designer, Michelle can translate design elements from the digital sphere into the physical space. She specializes in logo design, brand identity, and print work, such as catalogues, brochures, posters, and photography, which are included in her print work and her creative practice. Her photography is an intersection of documentary, surreal and abstract landscapes. The work engages emotions to convey empathy and reveal the beauty of nature, both the obvious and unassuming.
She has lived, created, and exhibited worldwide through group and collaborative projects, including in Australia, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Malaysia, and New York. Exhibitions include the CLIMARTE Gallery, the Pingyao International Photography Festival 2022 (China), and the Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2020. She was recently named a finalist in the Creative Climate Awards 2023 (New York) and the Canberra Contemporary Photographic Art Prize 2024 (Canberra).
